In an essay adapted from a lecture she gave in 1969, Toni Cade Bambara emphasised the importance of taking time to make sure the revolution is in all the places that we are. I often talk about the State, Street, Home as the Trifecta of Patriarchy. Bambara states: “We'd better take the time to fashion revolutionary selves, revolutionary lives, revolutionary relationships…If your house ain't in order you ain't in order. It is so much easier to be out there than right here. The revolution ain't out there. Yet.” I always remind you that the hardest revolution of all is the one in the Home, because every dictator goes home. Is your self revolutionary? Is your life revolutionary? Are your relationships revolutionary? How can you, to further quote Bambara, “make the revolution irresistible?”
