When I say “I own my body,” it is a revolutionary statement. It is deceptively simple but resolutely powerful because the beating heart of any revolution must be the twin forces of consent and agency. The revolution is incomplete if it focuses on our autonomy only from the state. The state is not the only entity that exercises power over us, especially if we do not identify as cisgender, heterosexual men. Remember the Trifecta of Patriarchy: State, Street, and Home.
