I am a white woman who grew up in Middle America (in every sense!). As a teenager in Iowa in the 1970s, I discovered feminism and brought my mother and sisters into the fold, but we have always felt (relatively) safe and comfortable, and we have had access to education and employment. We campaign for political and financial power and reproductive rights, but Feminist Giant helps me see the issues that women around the world are struggling with: the very right to live in safety, to have basic bodily integrity, to support themselves, and to make their own choices. Your perspective and focus on global issues is a valuable education.
